Hello From Green Wagon Farm!
Hello! We’re Green Wagon Farm, an eighteen-acre, certified-organic vegetable farm in Ada, Michigan, and we grow nutrient-dense foods all year-round using a combination of ancient techniques and modern tools. We’re passionate about producing food in a way that is healthy for the land, healthy for farmers, and healthy for all who eat it.
Seasonal Eating: It’s spring! We’ve got greens galore, some herbs (such as cilantro), and some baby roots (such as salad turnips & radishes). We also have a few storage crops, which we’ve stored in a climate controlled cellar all winter-long (beets, cabbage, potatoes, watermelon radishes). This time of year we’re busy adding members to our farm family. We’d love to have you join us! We sell produce directly to consumers through a Summer & Year-Round Farm-Share (CSA program), which provides members a portion of the harvest each week in exchange for an upfront commitment. By cutting out the middle-man, our food travels the fewest miles to your plate, tastes the freshest, and costs less.
Commitment to Wellness: We are a certified organic farm, which means that we believe that wellness extends to the soil beneath our feet, and that building healthy bodies begins with a healthy earth. We combat weeds and pests with mechanical cultivation and biological techniques instead of pesticides. We believe in fair wages and a healthy work-environment. We provide breakfast and lunch to all our farmers.
Know Your Food: Getting your food directly from farmers and hearing the stories of the harvest connects you to your food in a new way, deepens your appreciation for food, and decreases waste. Our farm pick-up members even get to harvest their own cherry tomatoes and snap peas from the field! We send out a newsletter each week with ideas and recipes for using that week’s harvest.
Growing Diversity: We grow over sixty different kinds of vegetables, which provide a vast array of nutrients, harvested at peak flavor and nutrition. Experience new varieties and new ways of eating--things like sweet potato leaves, brussel sprout tops, and garlic scapes. Enjoy vegetables and herbs with a story.
Community Focus: Food that’s produced sustainably, shared equitably, and enjoyed with pleasure is what we’re all about. This is the goal of our farm-share as well as our dinner series--for the third year, we’re hosting a series of unique farm-dinners that showcase seasonal eating at its best. Partnering with local chefs, we’re creating courses that reflect the diversity, beauty, and culture of this place and time (sign up here) to the get the summer dinner line-up). We love to invite new members into this slower, tastier, and more equitable way of eating!
